Obituary of John R. Sandherr

John R. (Jack) Sandherr, 82, passed away on June 20 following surgery at Hershey Medical Center. He was born in Allentown on October 31, 1935 to Edward G. and Catherine (Roberts) Sandherr. Jack was a 1953 graduate of Harrisburg Catholic (Bishop McDevitt) High School where he was a classmate of the love of his life and his wife of 49 years, Novene A. (Schupp) Sandherr who has likely welcomed him to heaven. He was also predeceased by his parents, his older brother Richard and his twin sisters, Jean and Joan. He was a lifelong and dedicated employee of Pennsylvania Power & Light Co. (PPL) where he began as a groundman and rose through the ranks to become Production Manager for the Harrisburg region. He was proud of the fact that he was the only "engineer" of the company who lacked a degree in the field. Prior to joining PPL, he served in the U.S. Air Force as a radar technician. He was exceptionally devoted to his five children and their spouses: Stephen (Cynthia) of Alexandria, VA; Robert (Patricia) of Orefield; Jacqueline Francis (David) of Lititz; Joseph (Debra) of Emmaus and Christine Corrigan (Michael) of Harrisburg. The last quarter of his life was greatly enhanced by the love and joy of his six grandchildren and great granddaughter who could depend on their "Poppy" to be in the audience at their sporting events, dance and music recitals, and theater performances. In the last twelve years, following the death of his beloved wife, Jack bravely and competently fulfilled her role as the anchor of a large family. He planned and hosted our "Little Christmas," acknowledged birthdays and anniversaries, and mediated family disputes. His family meant everything to him and he meant everything to his family. He leaves us with our perpetual gratitude for all that he has done as a father and grandfather. The family will receive friends at Dailey funeral home on Monday evening, June 25, 2018 from 6 to 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church, 25th and Berryhill Streets on Tuesday at 11:00 AM followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
