Obituary of Michael J. Tuckey
Michael J. Tuckey, 67, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of July 8th at General Osteopathic Hospital surrounded by family. In the 4 months he was diagnosed with cancer, he fought many battles but ultimately lost the war.
He was born in Harrisburg to the late Ralph and Catherine (Orsinger) Tuckey. He was preceded in death by his brother Larry Tuckey. He attended William Penn High School. Mike "The Bread Man" had worked for Stroehmann as well as various other bread companies as a route driver. He was currently an owner of the Stroehmann (Tuckey) Bakery Outlets. He also currently owned Mike's Card stand at Saturdays Market, which he ran for 32 years.
He was a Cub Master and Scout Master for troop 38 in Penbrook and also served on District Roundtable. He coached little league baseball for Penbrook. He was also the president of the Penbrook Elementary PTO. Since semi-retiring he enjoyed our forced family fun road trips (he was the voice of reason from the front seat). Mike also loved to drive his retirement buggy to Hollywood casino in Grantville, or whisking his wife off to the Hollywood Casino in Charles Town West Virginia for romantic weekend getaways. Camping, fishing, and enjoying what nature had to offer with his family made him happy.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years Nancy (Kocher) Tuckey, his two sons Michael A. Tuckey, John T. Tuckey, his daughter Emily E. Tuckey and her fiancé Matthew McCormick, his brother Ralph Tuckey and wife Nancy Tuckey of Harrisburg, brother Charles Tuckey and wife Melinda Tuckey of Hazelton, sister Kathryn Tuckey and fiancé Richard Thomas of Wilkes-Barre. Granddaughters Shelby, Melanie, and Ellie. He also had many cousins, nieces and nephews he loved dearly.
Arrangements will be made by Mario Billow at Dailey Funeral Home 650 S. 28th Street, Harrisburg (Penbrook) 17103. Services will be held Saturday, July 13th, starting with a viewing at 10am followed by service at 11am. Interment to be held at Woodlawn Cemetery immediately following. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Michael's name to Vicki's Angels 511 Bridge St, New Cumberland, PA 17070.
I was so sorry to see mike's obituary in the paper. The loss of a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle etc. will be felt for ever. He was such a nice man who enjoyed chatting with customers. May he Rest In Peace & May God's arms surround & comfort you.
