Obituary of William Richard Yost
William Richard Yost, lovingly known as "Captain Bill", was born on August 31, 1931 in Palmyra, PA. He lived in West Bay Park in Lewes, DE and Pelican Harbor in Punta Gorda, FL. He passed away on January 30, 2016.
After graduation from Palmyra High School, he served in the Navy during the Korean War, and went on to earn a business degree from Penn State. His career began with Anchor Hocking Glass Co in Lancaster, OH. He entered the insurance business as an agent with Washington National Insurance Co in Allentown, PA, ultimately being transferred to the Harrisburg, PA office as a District Manager. He ended his career independently selling insurance, investments and real estate in Harrisburg.
He was the son of William and Esther Yost, and was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Shindel Yost. He is survived by a son, Don, and wife, Barb, of Camp Hill, PA, and granddaughter, Kelsey Yost Smith; a daughter, Lyn Wagner and husband, Ed, of Eugene, OR and grandsons, Andy and Cory Wagner; and daughter, Terry Bauknight and husband, Steve, of Harrisburg, PA, and grandsons, Dustin and Jeremy Bauknight.
Bill was a Masonic member and a past president of The National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, Greater Harrisburg. During retirement Bill greatly enjoyed family, friends and fishing and was active in his communities.
A service will be held on Saturday, February 6 at Gilbert Dailey Funeral Home, 650 S. 28th St., Harrisburg. The viewing at 10:00 and service at 11:00, will be followed by burial at Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra, PA.
