Obituary of Charles M. Zogby

Charles Michael Zogby (“Chuck”) passed away in the presence of his loving wife of 50 years, Barbara (Macus), and son Michael, on Sunday October, 3, 2021 at UPMC Harrisburg Hospital after a long battle with cancer. Chuck was born on October 7, 1948 in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, to the late Faris and Eileen (Brennan) Zogby. He was a graduate of Shenandoah Catholic High School, where he played varsity baseball and basketball. He received his economics degree from Allentown College of Saint Francis de Sales (now DeSales University). He moved to Harrisburg in 1970, working as an estimator and general manager for several commercial HVAC companies, retiring in 2014 from HVAC Distributors, Inc. Chuck also worked after hours and after retirement in the facilities department at the Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg. He was always helping out with diocesan tasks, and contributing his time to the service of his parish, Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque Church, as the former coordinator of the altar servers. Chuck loved traveling, dining, and watching action movies with Barbara, meticulously researching their trips, destinations, and food. He also enjoyed spending quality time with his son, daughter-in-law, and three grandchildren and grand-cats cheering at all of their sports, shows, presentations, and school events, never missing anything, and always being a positive supporter. Chuck embraced his family and friends with a firm hug, and would offer to do anything for anyone. He could fix anything, he had unlimited energy, and he found great joy in gardening, music and concerts, making Lebanese food, and grilling with his family and friends. Chuck had strong resolve throughout many treatments and surgeries, even golfing between chemotherapy regimens, and finally celebrating a hole-in-one at Deer Valley Golf Course. Chuck was an avid reader, and he loved sitting outside in any weather with a good book, a cigar, and a cold beverage. He enjoyed sports, dedicating his time to the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, and following the Penn State Nittany Lions, Louisiana State University Tigers, Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles, and 76ers, and the Villanova Wildcats (and later the Saint Joseph’s University Hawks) – watching every one of them win a national title or championship (except the Hawks). Chuck coached many Colonial Park baseball teams, and he was always ready to debate teams or offer his thoughts on why Willie Mays was the best baseball player ever. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara (Macus), son Michael Charles, daughter-in-law Jamie (Desciak), and grandchildren Charles Robert, Ellery Therese, and Margot Cecelia. He also is survived by his stepmother Joann Zogby, aunt Regina Zogby, brothers Edward (Kathleen) Zogby, Mark Zogby, John (Helen) Zogby, sister Eileen (Kurt) Houpt, brother-in-law John (Karen, deceased) Macus, sister-in-law Frances (Francis, deceased) Macus, and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, God-children, and friends he treated as family. A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque Church, 2800 Paxton Church Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110, followed by a funeral Mass of Christian burial celebrated by the Most Reverend Ronald W. Gainer. Interment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque Church.
